If
you want to feel awake after Thanksgiving dinner
this year, don't skip the bird: eat less food!
While turkey does contain L-tryptophan-known to
play a role in making people sleepy-it doesn't
necessarily have more tryptophan than other meats,
says registered dietician Jaimie Davis, Ph.D.,
research associate with the Institute for
Prevention Research at the Keck School of Medicine
of USC. In addition, tryptophan needs to be taken
on an empty stomach to make you drowsy. So, the
sleepy feeling after Thanksgiving dinner is
probably a result of overeating. "When you eat a
large meal, blood is directed away from other
organ systems, including your nervous system,
which may cause you to be drowsy," explains
Davis. | |

When it
comes to leftovers, people generally fall into two
camps. You either love them or you loathe them. Like it
or not, there are usually leftovers from the big
feast. This
delicious recipe will win over people who don't want to
eat another bite of turkey and wow those who
do.
